Jikiden Reiki

I guide the people who come to me on a journey of discovery and connection with their inner essence.

During a Jikiden Reiki treatment I place my hands directly on the receiver, who stays fully clothed and relaxed, usually on a massage couch. When I treat the head I use a tenugui, a cotton cloth, to cover the eyes: it helps relaxation and improves hygiene when the face is touched.

Reiki (the Western form)

Reiki Ryoho (therapy) is a healing technique through the laying on of hands. It originated in Japan in the 1920s and was founded by Mikao Usui (1865-1926).

Treatments are given by placing the hands directly on the receiver, who stays fully clothed during the session, usually lying on a couch. In this way the practitioner acts as a channel for universal energy, assisting and strengthening the natural healing ability of the receiver's body.

Reiki does not act only on physical problems: it can also improve mental health and outlook on life. It has become more and more popular around the world, especially in Europe and the United States, recognised as an effective and important holistic treatment.

The lineage is the Western one of Hawayo Takata.

Jikiden Reiki (directly handed down)

Jikiden Reiki is free of Western or new age influences and is exactly as it was originally taught in the 1930s.

Chiyoko Yamaguchi, who kept practising quietly through the war and post-war years, learned Reiki in 1938 from one of Usui sensei's Dai Shihan (teachers of teachers), Chujiro Hayashi. She had been initiated into Reiki at the age of 17 and kept practising all her life, until she passed away in 2003.

Chiyoko's practice was discovered at the end of the 1990s. When people recognised that she had such a deep knowledge of Reiki, having practised it from its origins, many asked her to teach what she had learned from Hayashi.

At first she was reluctant. After seeing the differences between those original teachings and what was being taught and practised, she began to hold group seminars, so that the new generation of students could have access to that knowledge. In 1999, together with her son Tadao Yamaguchi, she founded the Jikiden Reiki Institute. Jikiden means "directly handed down", as in the transmission of the original teachings of Chujiro Hayashi and of Usui before him, without any change.

The school has kept growing thanks to the efforts of Tadao Yamaguchi and of the Shihan (teachers) he has trained. Jikiden Reiki seminars teach the original Japanese method, simple yet powerful, and have become more and more popular both in Japan and abroad. Later came JRUKA (Jikiden Reiki UK), to support the growing number of students in the United Kingdom, and IJRA (International Jikiden Reiki Association).

The healing process

The healing process is a personal and unique journey that unfolds through one's present and past experiences. When thoughts and emotions become dysfunctional, the frequency of the energy field drops, causing blocks, congestion and fatigue at every level.
